Hand-painted Mercy resin figure, a painting commission example

My anime figure painting service works like this: you choose any of the 305 figures in my catalogue, pick 1/8 or 1/6 scale, and I print it and paint it by hand in my atelier in Spain. Hand-painted pieces start at 380 EUR in 1/8 and 518 EUR in 1/6, and they leave the studio 3 to 7 weeks after the order is confirmed.

Below: what a commission painted figure is here, how the work goes from enquiry to tracked parcel, what the price covers and why, and how to care for the statue. If you came to find out how much it costs to get a garage kit painted, the price table has the short answer.

What a hand-painted commission is here

I run a one-person atelier. Every figure I sell is a fan-art garage kit that I print to order on an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra at 16K resolution, in grey photopolymer resin, with clear resin for transparent parts. Nothing sits in stock: each piece is printed fresh for the person who ordered it. When you choose the Hand-painted finish, the kit I would otherwise sell you unpainted goes to my paint bench instead of into a box of parts.

You make three decisions:

  • The figure. Any character in the shop. Browse by franchise, for example the League of Legends figures, or search the character by name.
  • The scale. 1/8 stands about 22 to 25 cm; 1/6 about 30 to 35 cm. Dioramas and dynamic poses can be larger.
  • The colours. Unless you ask otherwise, I paint the character in the colours they wear in the source material. For another outfit, skin tone or palette, ask for a custom colour scheme when you enquire.

Every commission starts with one of my own prints. If you are looking for a garage kit painter in Europe, ordering from Spain also means no customs charges anywhere in the EU.

How the process works, step by step

  1. Order or enquiry. Choose the Hand-painted finish in the figure’s live listing on Etsy or eBay. If the figure has no live listing, its page offers Enquire to Order by email. For a custom colour scheme, or if you have questions first, write to me through the commissions page.
  2. Confirmation. If you asked for custom colours, I confirm figure, scale, colours and price before anything is printed. Every order has a 24-hour cancellation window.
  3. Print. The kit is printed at 16K, hollowed where it makes sense, in parts sized for clean printing and clean painting.
  4. Clean and cure. Supports come off, the parts are washed and UV-cured, then hand-cleaned and test-fitted, so support marks and seams are dealt with before any colour goes on.
  5. Paint. Acrylics, by brush. Base colours first, then shading and highlights, then detailing: eyes, face, hair strands, fabric edges, metal and leather.
  6. Inspection. Every print is inspected before it ships.
  7. Tracked delivery. The figure ships from Spain with tracking, worldwide.

What I do at the atelier

Everything on that list happens on one bench, by one pair of hands. I do not send prints out to be painted, and the service is built around my own prints: how a figure is split into parts decides how easily each colour area can be reached with a brush.

How long a hand-painted figure takes

Hand-painted figures dispatch 3 to 7 weeks after confirmation; unpainted kits in 1 to 3 weeks. The difference is painting time: the resin must be fully cured before any paint goes on, and each layer of acrylic has to dry before the next, so shading and detailing cannot be hurried.

Where a figure lands inside that window depends on size, number of colours and fine detail: a 1/6 figure with a cape, armour and clear effect parts tends to sit at the long end, a 1/8 figure in a simple outfit at the short end. If you need the piece by a date, say so when you enquire and I will tell you honestly whether it is realistic. Delivery time comes on top; rates and customs notes are on the shipping page.

Figure painting commission price: what it costs and why

Scale Approximate height Unpainted kit from Hand-painted from Dispatch
1/8 22 to 25 cm 72 EUR 380 EUR 3 to 7 weeks
1/6 30 to 35 cm 99 EUR 518 EUR 3 to 7 weeks

Complex pieces cost more: dioramas, two-character sets, figures with many separate colour areas or large transparent sections. The exact price is on the figure’s page, or confirmed before I print if you ask for a custom colour scheme.

Why does a custom painted resin statue cost several times its unpainted kit? The kit price pays for resin, machine time and cleanup. The painted price pays for the handwork:

  • Hours. Base coats, shading, highlights, face and eye work, fine detailing.
  • Materials. Artist acrylics, brushes that wear out quickly on resin, and clear resin for transparent parts.
  • Drying time. Each layer of acrylic has to dry before the next one goes on. Rushing it shows up later as soft paint or smudged edges.

On Etsy, shipping is charged separately: free to Spain and the EU, 20 EUR to the UK, 40 EUR to the USA, Canada and the rest of the world, with 15 EUR per additional item.

How to request a quote

  1. From a figure page. Open the character you want, for example Akali or Blaidd. If it has a live listing, the Buy on Etsy or Buy on eBay button takes you there; choose the scale and the Hand-painted finish in the listing. If there is no live listing, the Enquire to Order button opens an email to me.
  2. From the commissions page. For a custom colour scheme, or to ask about a figure before committing, write to me through the commissions page. Tell me the character, the scale and any colour wishes, and I will reply with a price and a realistic dispatch window.

Figures with a live listing are paid for through Etsy (figureatelier.etsy.com) or eBay (3dfigureatelier on eBay). For a figure without one, I reply to your enquiry by email with the price and the next steps. My Etsy shop has five-star reviews; I would rather you read them there than take my word for it.

What makes a figure easier or harder to paint

These are the things that add hours, and therefore cost:

  • Many colour areas close together. A patterned kimono or a jacket covered in patches means more masking and more brush control.
  • Large smooth surfaces and textures. Capes, bare skin and armour show every brush mark; fur, chain mail and weathered metal are layered effects, not single coats. A figure like Blaidd, with fur, a cloak and armour on one body, asks for all three kinds of work.
  • Dioramas and two-character sets. Twice the figure, plus a base that is a scene in itself.

Easier pieces are single characters in a limited palette with a plain base. That is why the prices in the table are starting prices.

Caring for a hand-painted resin statue

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight. UV fades acrylics and can yellow resin over time.
  • Dust it with a soft, dry brush, such as a large makeup brush. Never use cleaning sprays or solvents on the paint.
  • Handle the figure by its base, not by hair, weapons or fingers.
  • If a part ever comes loose, a small drop of super glue (cyanoacrylate) on the joint will hold it.

Every print is inspected before it ships. If a figure has a defect, send me photos within 48 hours and I reprint and reship it free.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to get a figure painted here?

From 380 EUR in 1/8 and 518 EUR in 1/6. Complex pieces cost more; the exact price is on each figure page or confirmed before I print.

Can I choose my own colours?

Yes. Describe the outfit variant, skin or palette you want when you enquire and I will confirm the price before anything is printed.

Can you paint a kit I already own?

My painting service covers the figures I print here, because print and paint are planned together. For any other request, write to me through the commissions page and I will tell you honestly whether I can take it on.

How long will my hand-painted figure take?

Dispatch is 3 to 7 weeks after confirmation, plus shipping time. Tell me if you have a deadline and I will give you a straight answer before you order.

Is this an official licensed figure?

No. Every figure in the catalogue is unofficial fan art, printed and painted to order, not affiliated with or endorsed by the rights holders. Characters belong to their owners.

If you have a character in mind, open its page in the shop and choose the Hand-painted finish, or send me the character, the scale and your colour wishes through the commissions page. I will come back with a price and an honest date.
